HRV Troubleshooting Guide

HRV measures the small changes in time between your heartbeats. It's one of the most useful metrics, and one of the most confusing. Here's how to fix common issues.

If HRV data is missing

Step 1 — Turn on scheduled HRV monitoring. HRV is measured automatically during rest when scheduled HRV monitoring is switched on in the QWatch Pro app. [Add path to the setting.]

Step 2 — Wear it at night. HRV is measured mainly during rest and sleep, when you're still. If you don't wear the band overnight, you may see little or no HRV data.

Step 3 — Sync the app and check the band is charged and connected.

If HRV looks too low or changes a lot

Step 1 — Check your fit. HRV needs a clean heart rate signal. A loose band gives unreliable results. See [How to Wear Your Band Correctly].

Step 2 — Compare to yourself, not others. HRV varies hugely between people. A "low" number for one person can be normal for another.

Step 3 — Look at 1–2 weeks. Day-to-day changes are completely normal. The trend matters more than any single reading.

Common scenarios and what they mean

"My HRV is lower than my friend's"
HRV depends on age, fitness, genetics and more. Your own baseline is what matters.

"My HRV dropped suddenly"
Poor sleep, alcohol, illness, stress, hard training or dehydration can all lower HRV. It usually recovers within a few days.

"It doesn't match my other device"
Different devices measure HRV at different times and in different ways. Numbers won't match exactly.
